Scale
For the Shrimp:
- 1 pound (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off, based on preference)
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
For the Calabrian Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 ½ tablespoons Calabrian chili paste (adjust based on spice tolerance)
- 1 lemon, juiced (about 3 tablespoons)
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- ¼ cup dry white wine (optional, or substitute with chicken broth)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Optional Garnishes and Sides:
- Crusty bread for dipping
- Fresh parsley or basil leaves
- Extra lemon wedges
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Shrimp
- Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel.
- In a bowl, toss the shrimp with smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
Step 2: Make the Calabrian Sauce
- Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes, or until fragrant (be careful not to burn it).
- Stir in the Calabrian chili paste, allowing it to dissolve into the oil and butter mixture. Cook for 1 minute to release the flavors.
- Add the lemon juice, lemon zest, and white wine (if using). Stir and let the sauce simmer for 2–3 minutes to reduce slightly.
Step 3: Cook the Shrimp
- Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet, spreading them out in a single layer. Cook for 2–3 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 2–3 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and opaque.
- Stir the shrimp to coat them in the sauce, then sprinkle with fresh parsley.
Step 4: Garnish and Serve
- Serve immediately with crusty bread for dipping, or over your choice of pasta, rice, or salad.
- Garnish with additional parsley and lemon wedges for a fresh, vibrant finish.
