Homemade pizza rolls|

  • Author: Sophia
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 3-4 rolls 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup diced pepperoni, cooked sausage, or any preferred topping
  • ½ cup diced vegetables (e.g., bell peppers, mushrooms, or olives)

For Brushing:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

For Dipping:

  • Extra marinara or ranch dressing

Instructions

Make the Dough

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture is frothy.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  3. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let the Dough Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling

  1. Prepare Toppings: While the dough rises, dice and cook your chosen toppings if necessary (e.g., sauté mushrooms or cook sausage). Let cool.

Assemble the Pizza Rolls

  1. Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle approximately 12×16 inches.
  2. Spread the Sauce: Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges.
  3. Add the Fillings: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella, Parmesan, pepperoni, and any additional toppings evenly over the sauce.
  4. Roll the Dough: Starting from one long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
  5. Cut the Rolls: Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 1-inch pieces (about 24 rolls).

Bake the Pizza Rolls

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Arrange the Rolls: Place the rolls cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
  3. Brush with Butter: Mix the melted butter with garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Brush the tops of the rolls with the butter mixture.
  4. Bake: Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

Serve

  1. Cool and Serve: Allow the pizza rolls to cool for 5 minutes. Serve warm with marinara or ranch dressing for dipping.
