For the Steak:
- 1 1/2 pounds sirloin or ribeye steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or avocado oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Garlic Butter Sauce:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
For Garnish:
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Steak
- Pat the steak pieces dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. This helps achieve a nice sear.
- Season the steak cubes evenly with salt and black pepper. Set aside.
Step 2: Heat the Pan
- Heat a large cast-iron skillet or wok over medium-high heat until very hot. Add the vegetable oil and sesame oil, ensuring the pan is evenly coated.
- Allow the oil to heat for about 30 seconds. The oil should shimmer when ready.
Step 3: Sear the Steak
- Place the seasoned steak cubes in the pan in a single layer, being careful not to overcrowd the skillet. Sear the steak for 2–3 minutes on one side until a deep golden-brown crust forms.
- Flip the steak cubes and sear for an additional 1–2 minutes on the other side.
Step 4: Add the Garlic Butter Sauce
- Reduce the heat to medium. Push the steak cubes to one side of the skillet. Add the butter to the empty space in the skillet and allow it to melt.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the soy sauce and lemon juice, stirring to combine.
- Toss the steak cubes in the garlic butter sauce until evenly coated.
Step 5: Garnish and Serve
- Remove the skillet from the heat. Sprinkle the steak with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish.
- Serve immediately with fried rice, hibachi noodles, or steamed vegetables.
