Garlic Cheddar Biscuits

  • Author: Sophia
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 biscuits 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional, for color)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (or whole milk with 1 tablespoon vinegar)

For the Garlic Butter

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, salt, and paprika.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, ensuring it is evenly distributed.

Step 2: Add the Liquid

  1. Pour the buttermilk into the dry ingredients and gently stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until the dough comes together. Avoid overmixing, as this can result in dense biscuits.

Step 3: Shape the Biscuits

  1. Scoop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. For uniform biscuits, use a cookie scoop or ice cream scoop.
  2. Flatten the tops slightly with the back of a spoon or your fingers.

Step 4: Bake the Biscuits

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on the edges.

Step 5: Prepare the Garlic Butter

  1. While the biscuits are baking, melt the butter in a small bowl. Stir in the garlic powder and parsley (if using).
  2. Brush the hot biscuits with the garlic butter immediately after they come out of the oven.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Serve the biscuits warm as a side dish, snack, or appetizer. They pair wonderfully with soups, salads, and main courses.
