- 1 (32-ounce) bag frozen tater tots
- 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 1/4 cup diced tomatoes (optional)
- 1/4 cup pickled jalapeños (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Skewers (wooden or metal)
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Tater Tots
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) or as directed on the package. Spread the tater tots in a single layer on a baking sheet. Drizzle them with olive oil and season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they’re golden brown and crispy.
Step 2: Prepare the Bacon
While the tater tots bake, cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 7–8 minutes. Transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease, then crumble it into small pieces. Set aside.
Step 3: Assemble the Skewers
Once the tater tots are cooked, let them cool slightly for easy handling. Carefully thread the tater tots onto skewers, alternating with a few crumbles of bacon. Each skewer should hold 6–8 tater tots, depending on the size of the skewer.
Step 4: Add Cheese
Place the assembled skewers on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the skewers. Return them to the oven for 3–5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Step 5: Add Toppings
Remove the skewers from the oven and let them cool for 1–2 minutes. Drizzle sour cream over the top of each skewer and garnish with chopped green onions, diced tomatoes, and pickled jalapeños, if using.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Arrange the loaded tater tot skewers on a serving platter and serve immediately while they’re warm and crispy. Provide additional toppings or dipping sauces like ranch dressing, barbecue sauce, or hot sauce on the side.
