Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

Pat the chicken breasts or thighs dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika (if using). This helps to enhance the flavor and ensures the chicken caramelizes well when cooked.

Step 2: Sear the Chicken

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil is hot, place the chicken in the skillet. Sear each side for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown. The goal here is not to fully cook the chicken but to create a flavorful crust. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside.

Step 3: Make the Brown Sugar Garlic Glaze

In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium-low and add the butter. Once melted, stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Add the brown sugar, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar to the skillet. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly into a glossy glaze. This should take about 3-4 minutes.

Step 4: Combine and Cook

Return the seared chicken to the skillet, spooning the glaze over each piece to coat it evenly. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the chicken simmer in the glaze for 10-15 minutes, flipping the pieces halfway through. The internal temperature of the chicken should reach 165°F (74°C) for safe consumption.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve

Remove the skillet from the heat and allow the chicken to rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges for added brightness.
