Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Pasta
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Step 2: Make the Beef Sauce
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess grease.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet, cooking until softened and fragrant, about 3–4 minutes.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste.
- Add the oregano, basil, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer the mixture for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavorful.
Step 3: Prepare the Creamy Layer
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream and softened cream cheese. Stir until smooth and creamy.
Step 4: Assemble the Casserole
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spread the cooked pasta evenly across the bottom of the baking dish.
- Layer the beef sauce on top of the pasta, spreading it evenly.
- Spread the sour cream and cream cheese mixture over the beef sauce.
- Sprinkle the cheddar and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the top.
Step 5: Bake
- Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Step 6: Serve
- Let the casserole rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or red pepper flakes, if desired, and serve hot with a side salad or garlic bread.
