  • Author: Sophia
  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef Sauce:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Casserole Layers:

  • 8 ounces egg noodles or elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Optional Toppings:

  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (for a spicy kick)

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Pasta

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Step 2: Make the Beef Sauce

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet, cooking until softened and fragrant, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste.
  4. Add the oregano, basil, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer the mixture for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavorful.

Step 3: Prepare the Creamy Layer

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream and softened cream cheese. Stir until smooth and creamy.

Step 4: Assemble the Casserole

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the cooked pasta evenly across the bottom of the baking dish.
  3. Layer the beef sauce on top of the pasta, spreading it evenly.
  4. Spread the sour cream and cream cheese mixture over the beef sauce.
  5. Sprinkle the cheddar and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the top.

Step 5: Bake

  1. Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Step 6: Serve

  1. Let the casserole rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
  2. Garnish with fresh parsley or red pepper flakes, if desired, and serve hot with a side salad or garlic bread.
